THE PROCESS

The following is an overview of the sequence of events of a typical job and is helpful information for anyone considering or installing new counters. Although this outline focuses on kitchen counters the process is the same or similar for most installations.

Process:
Once you have a Job Confirmation, the countertop project goes through the production steps of template/measurement, fabrication, tear out and installation. Tear out and installation occurs on the same day.

Template/Measurement:
When we arrive for template/measurement, we ask that you have cleared your countertops and keep the work area free of any objects. This will help us to finish the template/measurement efficiently, and will also protect your items from any dust or damage. Template/measurement usually takes from 10 minutes to a couple of hours.
In the template/measurement process, we will either measure your cabinets (Usually for straight pieces) 0r  we make a pattern of your cabinets out of strips of wood. During this phase:

  • All sinks/cooktops/faucets are checked for compatibility and fit (therefore all such units must be on-site at template/measurement).

  • Cabinets are reviewed for any adjustments required, as best can be determined.

  • Overhang, general support and any personal preferences are discussed. Any refinements needed to cabinetry, etc., which will be required prior to installation of your countertops will be discussed with you.

  • Seam - minimum seams or no seams or specific seam placement will affect final price.

Sink:
During installation, your undermount sink(s), if applicable, will be mounted under your stone. We ask that you do not plumb in or use the sink in any way for at least 24 hours. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your plumber to reconnect the water and drain. Also, cooktops and faucets, etc. will be dropped into place for confirmation of fit.

Project Information:
Below is a list of information we will ask for prior to the production process. We prefer to obtain all of this information/material at time of templating or very soon after.

  • Sinks (we will bring undermount sinks back to the shop)

  • Faucet make and model and placement

  • Cooktop/Range make and model; cutout dimensions; downdraft when applicable

  • Edge preference

Fabrication:
Prior to fabrication, we encourage you to approve your slabs. We will ask that you review and give final approval at the time of sale. If your drawing submitted for your quote differs from your actual job we will let you know after template/measurement and adjust the price up or down accordingly.

Tear Out:
If your project requires that we tear out and remove your existing countertops,
we will do so at time of installation. There is an additional charge for tear out.  American Stone Marble and Granite does NOT haul away the old countertops or any job debris.  We DO NOT disconnect your plumbing or electric at time of tear out, so be sure it is done before hand.  Do not not to use your dishwasher until your plumber has reconnected the water.

Installation:
At installation, we ask that you also clear the work area of any objects and clear a path for the installers to carry the granite. The installation phase can take anywhere from one hour to the better part of a day; and can require some final cutouts to be made in your home. Please keep in mind that this is a major remodeling job, there may be some residual dust over the next couple of days, be sure to check items left in cabinets. We recommend the drawers be removed. Items under cooktop and sink cabinet must be removed to allow access. Some dust can result even though our installers are equipped to catch the majority of it. Granite, if not resin coated, is sealed at time of installation.

Job Completion:
Your inspection of the finished job is very important. The lead installer will review the installation with you, answer any questions you may have and ask for payment of the final balance due for your project.  The final payment must be in the form of Cash or Certified Check.
