FACTS

Granite is the hardest natural product next to diamond, sapphire and ruby.  Once polished, natural granite will keep its’ high gloss forever.

- How do I clean my granite countertops?
The general rule is not to use anything you wouldn’t use on your hands.  Cleaners such as Windex, with an ammonia base, may cause the sealant on the granite to become worn down.  Using plain dish soap and water is recommended.

- Will my granite countertops stain?
Granite is a highly dense material subject to staining from liquids such as grease, oil, coffee and wine if spills are allowed to sit overnight and if the granite has not been maintained properly.  Sealing the granite with a water-based sealant is recommended to protect from such spills.  If spills are wiped up within a few hours, you should have no trouble with your granite countertops.

- How often do I have to seal my granite countertops?
Your granite countertops will be sealed by our professional installers.  They will need to be resealed once or twice a year depending on your countertops particular color.

- Can granite crack or chip?
Granite will not crack or chip with regular use.  Only in cases of severe abuse will granite be damaged.

-Can I scratch or burn the surface of my granite countertop
Granite is one of the strongest substances on earth.  The only household item that would be strong enough to scratch the surface of your countertop would be a diamond ring.  As long as your not cutting with a diamond studded carving knife no cutting board should be necessary.  Granite is completely impervious to heat.  Temperatures would have to reach 700 to 900 degrees to alter its surface; which is physically impossible to reach in an everyday life setting.

-What are the different ways that I can view colors?
Colors can be viewed 3 ways.

  1. Via our photo gallery.

  2. By filling out a slab photo request form. Info on slab photo request form:  name, address, phone, email, color selections, notes.

  3. Visiting American Stone Marble and Granite directly to view slabs onsite. American Stone Marble and Granite permits our clients to tag slabs for their counters directly from our slab yard.  This can only be done once the template has been scheduled.  A 50% deposit is required for any and all slabs tagged prior to having a scheduled template date.
